SAMPLE LETTER: Regarding: Pension Reform Dear Senator XXXXXXX: I am one of 5,000 retired United Airlines pilots and one of your voting constituents. I urge you to quickly enact new legislation regarding Defined Benefit Pension Plans. The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC) has moved to terminate the UAL Pilots Defined Benefit Plan. UAL has moved to terminate all four of the UAL Defined Benefit Plans and turn these liabilities over to an already underfunded PBGC. I retired after xx years as a pilot for United.  Under terms of the ALPA contract with UAL, part of my earned pay was deferred into a pension trust to provide for me in retirement.  My family and I depend on this pension pay for our retirement living. If my pension is transferred to the PBGC, it will be grossly unfair. PBGC rules penalize anyone that "retires early" by reducing the maximum limit by an amount proportional to my "early retirement."  The federal government, through the FAA, forced me to retire at age 60.  I was not able to delay my retirement and work additional years to make up for any loss of pension income. The total effect of this transfer is that I will receive only a portion of the pension benefit I have earned. I urge your immediate support for legislation to prevent the UAL Pension Plans from being terminated and the liabilities transferred to the PBGC. I thank you for your consideration of this important matter.  Please contact me if you have questions. Respectfully yours, Name Address Phone number
